
Case Study - A Property Management Company
Assessment: The customer has four users, four PCs, one multifunction
printer attached to one PC and one PC is connecting to the internet via dialup.
One PC did not have a network card. One PC has a CD burner.
Request: The customer wanted to work more effectively with minimal
costs to upgrade.
Solution: The dialup internet service was upgraded to ADSL. One network
card was installed onto a PC. A 100mbps data switch was installed. All PCs and
the cable modem were wired to the switch with Cat5 cabling. The cable modem
has a built in firewall. All operating systems were configured to log onto
a peep to peer network. Network drives were mapped to shared folders for friendly
access to software documents among the PCs. The local printer was shared to
all PCs. Users could manually backup data files by CD burner or installed external
zip drive.
Case Study - A Wine Store
Assessment: The customer has two users, two PCs, one inkjet printer,
ADSL, a router, networked with Cat6 cabling. One PC has a CD burner, and the
other PC is embedded into a cash register.
Request: The customer wanted to be able to access software data from
the other PC and print reports.
Solution: The PCs were configured to logon a peer to peer network. The
local printer was shared to the other PC. A batch script was written and scheduled
to backup the software documents to both PCs hard drives at a conveniently time
every day. The customer could manually backup data files by CD burner.
Case Study - A Tax Preparation Company
Assessment: The customer has one user, two PCs, with a dialup connection.
One computer takes five minutes to boot up, and all software freezes up the
PC.
Request: The customer wanted the PC to function at a proper state
of speed.
Solution: All spy ware was cleaned, and unused software was uninstalled
from the PC. The PC booted to the desktop within 30 seconds.
